About this app

Aikido is a stressed defensive modern Japanese martial art. It was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by Ueshiba Morihei as a synthesis of various Budō disciplines, in particular from Daitō-ryū Aiki-Jūjutsu. Aikido practitioners are referred to as Aikidōka.

The aim of Aikidos is to counteract the attack by directing the attack power (Defense) and preventing the opponent from continuing his attack (hedging). This is in particular done by throwing (rodents Waza) and farm techniques (Waza or Katame Waza). According to the peaceful Aikido mental attitude, this is going to be counter-attacked without any intention, but above all taking a favorable position and constant control over the contact with the opponent. For execution, attack and defensive forms are pre-selected from a set of standardized Aikido techniques and performed, after a given form. As the training progresses, forms of the free practice of Jiju-Waza, Jiyu-Waza and Randori are also available. It follows from Japanese proverbs: "step by form and get out of form."
