This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Media Notification on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Great use of the Palette library. Notifications look great. Now I really want to get rid of the original notification but could not get it to work. I installed the app as a system app and tried to grant the permission but it did not work. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks! 5 Stars deserved.

Does not work with Spotify. (Please fix) It will show the notifacation when I play a song, then when I click on the notifacation it takes me to spotify then when I leave the app the notifacation disappears but the song still plays in the background. Please fix.

Am using poweramp but it is not working as described. Unlikely due to the fact of me using an alpha version but all I get it the album name and track name. No album no controls. Nothing. Pls fix!

About this app

MediaNotification is a slightly unstable attempt to create Android O styled media notifications. Please note that this app does not replace media notifications coming from other apps, but it creates new notifications on its own. The most common methods of use are as follows:

OPTION ONE: Leave the original music player notifications intact. The app will read its data and create a new notification with fully operational album art and media controls. There should not be any issues using the app this way, provided that the 'Use Broadcast Receiver' switch is disabled.

OPTION TWO: Block all notifications from the music players installed on your phone, and enable the switch at the bottom of the settings menu. The app will then obtain all its information from a BroadcastReceiver, and get the album art from either the external storage (if the song is being played locally) or from the last.fm api.

OPTION THREE: Somehow install the app on the system partition of your device, and grant it android.permission.UPDATE_APP_OPS_STATS. This is not possible to do from within the app as the UPDATE_APP_OPS_STATS is protected by the application signature. In other words, you will need to compile a new apk with the same signature as the rest of the system apps.

Unfortunately, this app is not compatible with every music player on the market. This is simply because there is no way for another app to obtain information from them about the current playing song.
