About this app

Three hundred years ago, Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766), a Jesuit missionary from Milan, Italy, came to China to preach. He made a landfall in Macao where he adopted a Chinese name ─ Lang Shi-ning. Even though he came to China as a missionary, he became a full-time court painter thanks to his excellent art skills. As an artist, he served three Emperors, Kangxi (1661-1722), Yongzheng(1723-1735) and Qianlong (1736-1795), for a period of 51 years.

Three hundred years have passed since Lang Shining came to China. In 2015, the National Palace Museum and the Opera di Santa Croce, Italy, jointly present “The Giuseppe Castiglione - Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition” to bring Castiglione’s work back to his homeland in both original and modernized forms. This exhibition consists of four sections: “When China Meets Europe”, “All the Glories of the Originals: A Gallery of Selected Giuseppe Castiglione High-Quality Replicas”, “Paintings Come Alive: New Media Installations Inspired by Giuseppe Castiglione’s Works”, “National Treasure under the Spotlight: A Documentary and Animations”.

The APP is provided the excellent guiding experience for the visitors to enjoy above Giuseppe Castiglione achievement in China. Welcome to download the APP and enter the Giuseppe Castiglione world of art and paint.
