Runs in background and uses GPS all the time unless you force quit app or restart phone. Also, if you download and cache the offline data it does not use the cached data unless you are in airplane mode or completely without signal. If you have one bar of unusable LTE it will try loading forever and again drain your battery for no reason. It's almost as if whoever designed this has never actually been to the park. Also, the maps do not have bathrooms and vaults which would be immensely helpful.

This app is only moderately useful and only if you don't have a map. You can set favorites and ask to be alerted to when you are near but no alert ever happened. The road names are mostly not visible which isn't helpful since the roads in the park itself aren't well marked either. It literally only shows the location of three restrooms in the entire park which is ZERO helpful, especially since there are restrooms in many, many more places than marked but not everywhere you would expect.

Amazing app! however, I suggest downloading all maps and audio before you leave the internet. PLAN AHEAD. If you do this, the app works extremely well. The only thing holding me back from rating it 5 stars is that the map doesn't express horizontal distances (but has topographical lines, which is great) and it doesn't have the names of every lake.

Not good! Downloaded app before our trip. Very excited! The first visitor center we stopped in I asked about using it. The ranger said not to bother it wouldn't work in the park. He had used it and he said he wasn't successful in making it work. I was assuming it would get triggered by our exact location and start playing. No go. Very disappointed. Since I downloaded map before hand the map did work.

NPS just broke this app for use on tablets just like they did with the NPS Yellowstone app. NPS is not responsive to app feedback. Apps will work on smaller screen smartphones. Both apps were a great resource when they worked on tablets. On tablets you could actually see and read information easily. On smaller screen of smartphone app navagation and layout are hard to use for research. Semi-ok for quick location info lookup.

Just finished downloading the app. Took about 8 tries to get the offline stuff downloaded but as soon as I got a more stable Internet connection not cell internet connection it went fast. Would have given it 5 had it downloaded the first time.

##About The Park.
In 1929, the original Grand Teton National Park only protected the Teton Range and the valley’s piedmont lakes. In 1950, the park expanded to include the valley floor - preserving the park's spectacular views. Today, the jagged peaks and crystalline lakes are home to grizzly bears, wolves, moose, and herds of bison and elk.

##Notes
Download the app before you arrive. Cell service and Wi-Fi are limited in Grand Teton.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
