About this app

ABOUT THE AUDIO GUIDE
Enjoy a tour of the exhibition “Holbein and the Renaissance in the North”—complete with a chance to listen in on the lifeworlds of great artists like Holbein the Younger, Holbein the Elder, Hans Burgkmair and Albrecht Dürer and learn about the City of Augsburg’s past as a thriving art and commercial centre.
60 suspenseful minutes with audio tracks and illustrations on many of the artworks in the exhibition

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Hans Holbein the Elder, Hans Burgkmair, and Hans Holbein the Younger share Albrecht Dürer’s reputation as pioneer of a new art: the painting of the Renaissance in the North. What had begun in Italy developed into something completely new in Northern Europe. Presenting some 130 works from the most important European collections, the exhibition provides an overview of the art of that epoch. Its special highlight is Hans Holbein the Younger’s Madonna of Mayor Jacob Meyer zum Hasen, a work that concentrates the artistic developments as in a burning glass and thus typifies the Renaissance in the North like no other painting.
