WHAT IS VTU SAFE CAMPUS APP ?
VTU Safe campus app is a mobile based personal safety application which empowers the students and faculty of VTU to raise an alert from the application when in danger and directly inform the authorised faculty/response control centre. On raising an alert the application automatically transmits distress sms to pre-defined contacts of the user and notifies the authorised faculty/response control centre, while simultaneously transmitting the location of the user along with Video/Photographs and audio data captured by the application. The application also automatically calls the pre-defined contacts or relevant designated person assigned by the user, it also intelligently tracks the user when the alert is on.

OBJECTIVES
To empower the students and faculty of Visvesvaraya Technological University to connect with the authorised faculty, friends and family immediately along with audio/video situational evidence, the moment they feel unsafe or threatened.
To initiate multiple necessary actions with a single press of a button.
To ensure faster response from authorised faculty by helping them with relevant data such as the location and audio/video situation of the user.

VTU SAFE CAMPUS APP FEATURES
SOS BUTTON:
VTU Safe campus application has 5 alert buttons which can be easily activated by the user to raise an alert when in danger. The five alert buttons are:
Personal Alert Button: Users can notify via text message/e-mails, auto call and send their location to their trusted contacts stored in the application when in danger.
Anti Ragging Button: Empowers the user to report cases of ragging with live location and audio/video data to the concerned authorities of the university and to SAVE (NGO; www.no2ragging.org)
Sexual Harassment Button: Empowers the user to discreetly notify the authorised faculty along with trusted contacts cases of sexual harassment with location and audio/video data.
Security Alert Button: Users can immediately inform the Safe campus response control centre, when feeling unsafe or concern about one’s security. This alert is also supplemented by location and audio/video data.
Medical Alert Button: When raising this alert, the medical contacts of the user are immediately notified via sms/e-mail and auto-call. The safe campus response control centre also receives the alert on their control monitors. This alert is also supplemented by medical data(stored by the user) , location and audio/video data
Location & Live Tracking: Instantly displays the user location and allow for live tracking when the alert is on

Audio/Video: Automatic 30 seconds pre –alert audio and post –alert 20 seconds video or 5 photographs depending on the user mobile phone.

Auto Call: The application can automatically call the pre-selected contacts of the user or a default number when raising an alert.

Critical Phone & Personal Details: The battery & network strength of the user’s phone as well as the medical details can be displayed on the response control centre.

No Data Connection: when there is no data connection the application will still notify the pre selected contacts via sms and the moment data connection is restored, the audio/video and location data will be sent.

App Permissions

Allows applications to disable the keyguard if it is not secure.
Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting.

Allows an application to initiate a phone call without going through the Dialer user interface for the user to confirm the call.
