A mega event to display the strengths, potentials and initiatives in the North Eastern Region

12-14 FEBRUARY, 2016 VENUE: ITPO, PRAGATI MAIDAN, NEW DELHI

The North East Region, comprising of eight states, Astalakhshmi, covers an area of nearly eight percent of the country’s total geographical area and have four percent of the total population of the country. The region has over hundred sixty scheduled tribes and over four hundred other tribal and sub tribal communities and groups. Richly endowed with natural resources, the region is identified as one of the world’s biodiversity hot spot; it hosts species rich tropical rain forest and supports diverse flora and fauna including medicinal plant species. Reserves of petroleum and natural gas in the region constitutes one fifth of the country’s total oil reserves. More than sixty percent of the India’s potential hydroelectricity generation capacity lies here.

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is organizing a mega event during 12-14 February, 2016 at Pragati Maidan, ITPO, New Delhi. This event showcases the activities by various Ministries in North East and also gives an opportunity to different sectors to showcase and deliberate their achievements, issues, constraints and challenges.

The event named as “Destination North East- 2016” includes a Business Summit, Exhibitions Stalls showcasing features of North East in order to attract investments participating only in Tourism, Information Technology, Skill Development, Food Processing, Handlooms and Handicrafts, Rural Livelihoods, Entrepreneurship and Microfinance, Horticulture and Floriculture.

The most fascinating treasure trove of North East has always been famous for its traditions, and hospitality. It is acknowledged to be one of the most splendid, variegated and multilingual tribal belt of the world. To bring this fact closer to the participants/visitors, cultural programmes mixed with music and dance will also be organized everyday in the evening. To get a taste of ethnic North East Food, North East Food Court with different cuisines of all the states of North East will be there.
