Note: Review still valid in 2019. Still the best. Nicoid handles downloading, playing, backgrounding, and account navigation almost without a single complaint. I have only encountered two problems: some nonstandard MP4s will not play, and the "Cache List" and other large lists can be difficult to parse. Considering those are my only complaints, this app is great, and much superior to the official app. Note: For cache-only offline mode, put you phone in airplane mode.
