ABOUT US
Djakarta Halal Restaurant had been established by the Tjoa Family from Rantau Prapat, Sumatra in 1959 at the corner of Jalan Tun Haji Openg and Main Bazaar in Kuching.

Popular from its inception, the Djakarta Restaurant was patronized by the doyens of Kuching society including the late first Governor of Sarawak Tun Haji Openg himself. In 1962, the restaurant moved to a bigger premise (across the old Cathay Cinema in Kuching city where it continued its operations until 1982. The lack of interest from the younger generation to continue the business caused the restaurant to be closed.

Former customers still remember with fondness our famous Gado-Gado, Rendang, Udang Galah Gulai, Laksa, Assam Fish, Ayam Goreng and Mee Siam.

In order to introduce this food heritage to the current generation, we have decided to re-launch the Djakarta Restaurant recipes. As the new generation of Tjoa takes charge, we will be offering our unique style of food starting with our Rendang, Gado-Gado dressing & Gulai.

In March 2018, Djakarta Restaurant started to produce and sell our own recipe ready to cook paste. We started with the most famous Padang dishes: Rendang, Gado Gado & Gulai.

In July 2020, Old Djakarta Restaurant Recipes Instant Paste is produced, packed and sold by Babaganoush Seafood Restaurant (Halal). Our customers can buy our paste and try our Padang Dishes when they dined at Babaganoush Seafood Restaurant. Reservation of tables at Babganoush Seafood Restaurant can be made in this mobile app.

Our paste is simple and easy to cook and no other ingredients are required except coconut milk.

Our Rendang Ready to Cook Paste can be used to cook Chicken, Beef, Mutton & any other meats. Also, it is vegetarian & vegan friendly.

Our Gulai Ready to Cook Paste can be used to cook Chicken, Beef, any type of meat and any type of seafood. Best taste is cooking prawn.

Our Gado Gado paste is instant and do not require cooking. Just add boiling water and stirred. Ready to pour over your traditional gado gado salad or any types of salad.

Our paste is made of fresh natural ingredients for its fragrant, taste & nutritional values and we use only raw sugar, Himalayan salt & Sunflower cooking oil.

We aim to produce the healthiest products that have no artificial flavouring, colour and preservative. Ever since we started our business, we had never used MSG in our cooking.
