Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Road News on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

About this app

The Road News app offers a quick 3 menu display of "Current Incidents" , "Road Works" and "Planned Road Works".

These three choices are updated in real time by utilizing an RSS feed provided by the highways agencies of Scotland.

From the main landing page these three choices can be accessed from their three symbols on the blue bar at the top right of the page along with a further drop down menu for favorite social media choices.

There are also further instructions on the main landing page in the form of a scrollable menu.

On each of the 3 choices a flashing sidebar indicates the volume of reports for each choice at that time, this is explained in detail on the main landing page.

There are other apps with far more information and choice but this app is designed to give a quick no nonsense overview of current incidents before you turn the key and leave on your journey.

New features

This is the first version of the "Road News" app with three simple functions displaying accidents, road works and planned road works across Scotland. The simple to use menu provides a real time RSS feed from the Scottish Highway Agencies providing a quick way to check the roads before heading out.
