SchengenCalc is a must-have tool for US citizens planning an extended stay in Western Europe due to regulations which state you cannot spend more than 90 days in the Schengen zone during any 180 day period.

If you want to stay in Western Europe longer than 90 days, you will need to spend at least some portion of that time in one of the few countries which is not a party to the Schengen agreement. At the moment, this would primarily be Ireland, the U.K., and Croatia.

Careful planning is required to maximize the amount of time you can spend in any of the 26 countries which make up the Schengen zone (see list below). Because the agreement creates a "moving 180 day window", it can be difficult and time-consuming to do this the old-fashioned way (manually, with a calculator and a calendar).

SchengenCalc simplifies this task by providing tools which allow easy entry of previous or planned stays and a visual indicator for how long you've been in the Schengen zone on any particular day (past, present, or future). This provides a simple way to try out various scenarios and immediately see how they impact future plans.
