Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing SMS Location Tracker on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

Using LDPlayer

  1. Download and install LDPlayer from https://www.ldplayer.net.
  2. Drag the APK/XAPK file directly into LDPlayer.

About this app

Every year, many people get lost or injured while hiking, biking or doing other activities on their own in remote areas. If you're knocked unconscious or for some other reason become unable to reach your phone and dial for help in such as situation, it could take a long time before someone starts looking for you. And perhaps they don't even know where to begin looking?

This app lets your friends or family locate you by sending a text message to your phone and receiving a reply with your coordinates and other useful information. The reason it uses old school text messages (SMS) and not some fancy instant messaging system is that in remote areas, mobile data connections are often unavailable. The basic cell phone signal (2G) is usually much more powerful and less prone to interference and fading.

Please note that this app is still in development, and more and more features will be added in time. Features that are planned but not yet implemented include:

🛠 Automatic sending
    Automatically send your location to a specified number at a predefined time or interval.

🛠 Web updates
    Automatically publish your location on the web at a predefined time or interval, to let others track your progress (when mobile data is available).

🛠 Settings
    More settings to let you fine tune the behaviour of the app.

Since this is the very first public version of the app, we ask that you have consideration with minor bugs. We have done thorough testing both internally and with beta testers, but we obviously can't test on every available device, and sometimes certain phones and Android versions exhibit some odd behaviours.

We appreciate any and all feedback so we can correct any bugs and improve the usability and stability of the app.
