if your phone does not have a magnetic sensor, then this is one of the very few options. I think it works pretty well. you truly have to move about 30 yards away from your initial location for the satellite information to calculate which way north might be based on the differences between the two locations. the greater the distance moved, the greater the accuracy. a 30 yard difference in location will get you a rough idea about the direction for north. for greater accuracy, move further.

The compass is utter rubbish. Don't waste your time that's all I can say.
