Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing BirdLasser on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

Using LDPlayer

  1. Download and install LDPlayer from https://www.ldplayer.net.
  2. Drag the APK/XAPK file directly into LDPlayer.

Great app and fun to use. There are many tips and tricks not immediately visible, but as you becone more familiar, you work them out. Following the BirdLasser Facebook page and the email newsletters certainly helps. Nevertheless a great app with wide functionality, especially if you participate in the Challenges and Events on their web page.

This app makes it so much easier to contribute to the SA Bird Atlas Project (SABAP2). I'm enjoying using it to contribute to the atlas project. Atlassing, which I had avoided before Birdlasser, has given me a sense of purpose in my birding activities and has added a new dimension to my hobby. Peter Lor

Unfortunately after the latest update (run on 11 Jan 2019) the App does not open on my tablet? Afraid uninstalling and re-installing might lead to data loss. After prompt reaction from the App admin a new update was uploaded solving the problem. Now we can look forward to use the App during our next birding trip.

I love that it plots on Maps the location of the sighting. My only complaint is that it doesn't have all the North American bird species on it. So far, I've identified both types of Magpies and the Stellars Jay as missing. I'm sure there's more. So I log those species as "Unidentifiable" and name them in the notes section butt they WON'T show up in my LifeList. We need to be able to add bird species if the makers won't list them all.

I have found the app really easy to use, the admins response to questions is also very fast. Great how the app transfers and compiles all the data of the birds you see!
