The first replica of the sacred original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe arrived in Des Plaines on November 24, 1996. It came with the faculty of giving those who visit this Shrine the same intercession, thanks and blessings as if the pilgrim visited the Basilica in Mexico. On that glorious day, the Shrine in Des Plaines was declared the official site in the United States for devotees to fulfill the promises (mandas) made to Our Lady of Guadalupe as if they fulfilled them at the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

También ese glorioso día este Santuario fue declarado el lugar oficial en los Estados Unidos donde los devotos de la Virgen de Guadalupe pueden pagar sus mandas como si lo hicieran en la Basílica de Guadalupe de México.
