About this app

Estimates PAR light intensity by measuring the Lux intensity of Red, Green, Blue and White light, and applying a linear approximation to the values. Also estimates the temperature of the color in Kelvin.

The display shows a real time plot of the RGB and W Lux values as obtained from the built in light sensor on your phone.

Also shown is a) the estimated color temperature in Kelvin, and b) the estimated PAR value, for the measured RGBW levels.

Also shown is the color temperature name in the range "Candlelight" to "40K Metal Halide" according to the estimated Kelvin value.

Intended uses: estimating Lux and PAR intensities of LED, Metal Halide (MH), fluorescent, T5 and other lighting in freshwater, marine and reef aquariums.

The estimation is based on a calibration made with a MarsAqua 165W LED array, which used measurements of PAR at several locations under the light, and fitted them (used a least squares method) to RGBW levels obtained at the same locations.

Note: this app is designed specifically only for devices in the following list. On other devices, the readings will almost certainly not make sense.

List of devices known to work:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

A warning message will pop up if the CM3233 sensor data file is not present on the phone, and the app will then terminate.

If you already have a real PAR meter, the app can be improved in accuracy if you have time to send me the PAR reading you get, together with the LuxPar Meter app's RGBW readings at the same location - it would be much appreciated! Then I can incorporate your data in the multi-parameter fit, which will benefit other users.

New features

// v1.2 Removes Ads
// Checks for existence of CM3323 sensor file before running
// Re-layout of RGBW and PAR values
// Gives mnemonic for color temperature on scale "Candlelight" to "40K Metal Halide" etc.
// and shows RGB color in a square on-screen swatch
