About this app

Lewis Carl Hamilton (born in Stevenage, United Kingdom, January 7, 1985; age 34) is a Formula 1 racer from the United Kingdom who is currently racing for the Mercedes GP team. He was once the youngest world champion in F1 history when he won the 2008 title at the age of 23 years, 9 months and 26 days, thus breaking Fernando Alonso's record of 24 years and 59 days when he won the 2005 world title. This record was later broken by Sebastian Vettel in the 2010 season. His career in F1 began in 2007, when he was appointed as team-mate Fernando Alonso at McLaren. His first F1 debut was at the Australian GP March 18, 2007 and he finished third.

Lewis Hamilton was the first Formula 1 driver with dark skin. Hamilton's mother, Carmen Brenda Larbalestier, married a dark-skinned British man, Anthony Hamilton, who made Hamilton inherit dark skin from his father. Hamilton's parents separated when he was only 2 years old, which made Hamilton have to live with his mother and two stepbrothers. But he moved with his father when he was 12 years old.

Hammy, as he is usually called, started karting when he was 8 years old. After winning several karting championships, he was contracted as a racer by McLaren, thus making his career continue to grow.

Hamilton's career had indeed been marked by some controversy. Starting from a feud with a former McLaren teammate, Fernando Alonso, to become a victim of racist action in Spain in early 2008.

At the 2008 Brazilian GP Lewis Hamilton became the first F1 world champion of the black race after being able to finish in P5 and in the standings he was one point ahead of Felipe Massa.
