About this app

The word ‘intrepid’ comes from the Latin, intrepidus, which literally translated means 'fearless, daring or bold’ and the word ‘explorer’ comes from the Latin, explōrāre, and refers to ‘a traveller, adventurer, voyager, globetrotter or discoverer’. This seemed the perfect title fit for the object and aim of South Africa’s new outdoor travel and adventure magazine.

The Intrepid Explorer is the first of its kind in the outdoor adventure and travel sector as a custom title linked to the oldest and most prestigious outdoor store, Cape Union Mart, that have 73 stores around the country. The high quality magazine features South Africa's top travel writers, adventurers, environmentalists and experts revealing all that the great outdoors and living a life of adventure has to offer. With The Intrepid Explorer we are going all out to harness the talents of the who’s who in outdoor adventure and travel with influential contributors including adventurers such as Kingsley Holgate, Braam Malherbe, Ryan Sandes; celeb chef, Justin Bonello on bush cuisine, and best-selling SPUD author John van de Ruit with his segment On Safari with Spud. It’s a great read which can easily compete with its counterparts in the consumer sector.

If you want to read about what the top adventurers are up to and where some of southern African and in fact, the world’s best locations are for your own intrepid adventures then this is the magazine for you. The digital version of the magazine (available quarterly) offers a load more than the printed version does as we have included video footage and extra titbits for your reading pleasure.

In the wise words of Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Live the life of adventure!
