About this app

This App teaches students some preliminaries as well as advanced topics in Bharathanatyam. The lessons are divided into Beginner, Junior, and Intermediate. Video tutorials are provided under each level. The videos are short and crisp and range between 3 to 10 minutes. The videos are ably demonstrated by Dr. Ranjani and her students. The app has about 50 video tutorials.

The Beginner level contains videos on Introduction, Theory, Prayers, and Initiation, Warm-Up, and Adavus. There are a total of 28 beginner level videos. Among these are Adavu Videos which contain tutorials and demos on Tattu Adavu, Naatu Adavu, Pakka Adavu, Jaaru Adavu, Chillu, and Kuditha Mettu Adavu, Veeshal and Parshwa Adavu, Kathi, Karthari and Shaayal Adavus, Tattu Mettu, Utpalvana and Brahmari, Mandi and Sarukkal Adavus. The adavus are demonstrated in different beats and tempos.

Junior Level contains video tutorials and demonstrations on Alarippu and Jatiswaram. Alaripu section contains 3 tutorials on Mishra and Tishra Alarippu. Jatiswaram contains video tutorials on Introduction, Mai Adavu Korvai, Jatiswaram Pallavi 1, 2, and 3 as Korvais. Pallavi and Anupallavi, Charanam, and Charana Swaram. Total of 12 video tutorials.

Intermediate Level contains video tutorials and demonstrations on Nrityanjali and Shabdam. There are 4 video tutorials in Nrityanjali and 7 video tutorials on Shabdam.

All the videos have been recorded by the artiste and the students using their smart phones.

The videos are streamed from a shared server on the cloud and a video will start playing within 1 min after clicking. The App is about 4.83 MB in size. Since the videos use streaming to play an active internet connection is required for the duration of the song.

The videos play well with a good 3G /4G connection and on a Smart device that does not have too many apps installed which causes performance degradation.
