About this app

DISIDA, the DIabetes SIck DAy app, will help you DECIDE how to manage your Type 1 diabetes when you are feeling sick. DISIDA will remind you to check your blood glucose levels, advise you when to take extra insulin and fluids and tell you at what point you should be seeking medical help.

DISIDA has been developed for children who attend the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Diabetes Clinic in Newcastle Australia.

To use DISIDA you need to be using a ratio based system, such as an insulin pump or ezy-BICC MDI, for calculating the insulin you give for the carbohydrate food you eat and for raised blood glucose levels.

When using DISIDA you will need to regularly measure your blood glucose and blood ketone levels and be able to give mini-dose and full dose glucagon injections.

Before you use DISIDA you will first need your Diabetes Doctor or Credentialed Diabetes Educator to check that the settings in DISIDA are safe for you.
