took 4 1/2 hours to download the offline maps. first of all, it would get partly downloaded, then for some reason or other, it would start back at 1percent. did this 4 different times. on the fifth try, it finally got to 100 percent, then started downloading it all over again. so i went to my sd card to see if it was there, finally found it, and all the files are jumbled around, not in order, and every single one of them says unable to open file. this is useless to me.

I would love for this app to knock it out of the park as a secondary navigation aid, but the map packs end up causing a real problem. After a few attempts at downloading the offline maps, only to be timed out, I turned off my screen's standby and watched the whole topographic map download. Imagine my horror when I saw the meter tick down to "Downloading: 8841/8841," only to reset back to 0/8841. Again, if this gets fixed, this review is jumping straight to 5 stars.

Doesn't work. Installed fine. But then it wouldn't sign me in with my google account - just timed out after a long wait. And it never dowloaded any map data. It launches the download notification but never makes any download progress on wifi or 4g. After I force stopped and restarted the app a few tomes with no changes to this behavior I emailed the listed support with my issues. I'm writing tjis after a couple of days of no response. I had high hopes for the app but no-go.

Pretty good app, but could be much better. For some reason, everytime I try to sign in, the app tells me "Unable to reach server". I emailed hikerbot about this and they haven't responded. So, minus 1 star for each issue.

Unable to download off line maps. Never get past 48%. Tried for 2 days and now giving up. 10/2- revising my review. Awesome app. Downloads not necessary. On the trail now for 7 days and use this frequently. Kudos to the developer. 20 days to go!

Installed, it doesn't actually show the trail and the download for offline never started. Don't bother.

About this app

Superior Trail Guide is the all-in-one app for the Superior Hiking Trail in northeastern Minnesota.

Thru-hikers, day hikers, volunteers, friends and family, future hikers, or arm-chair hikers and trail enthusiasts will all find something useful.

For Hikers:
• Most up-to-date trail and town data crowdsourced by thousands of hikers. See water reports, snow conditions, stream crossing water levels, bus schedules, restaurant and lodging reviews, and more.
• Any user can add waypoints, photos, comments, update descriptions, and edit any content in the app, in real time. Think Wikipedia!
• Download topo maps, road maps, and satellite images for offline use.
• Navigate using GPS while in Airplane mode. Everything in the app works while offline after the initial data download.
• View elevation profiles and compute distances to locations along the trail.
• Share your location (optional) and see where others are on the trail.
• See a real-time feed of contributions other hikers are making.
• Search the map by name or point type, search the activity feed by hiker name, location, or type of edit.

For Friends and Family:
• Track the location of your hiker on the trail.

For Trail Maintenance Crews and Land Management Agencies:
• See real-time hikers reports of trail damage, blowdowns, and infrastructure maintenance needs (e.g., washed out bridges).

For Future Hikers and Trail Enthusiasts:
• Explore and learn about the trail. See current photos, use the wealth of information and hiker reports to plan your hike and resupply stops.
