To the people bagging this. Spare a thought to the developers and business owners trying to give you a better product. Rome wasn't built in a day. My assessment is its cleaner visually. . The tracking part is not as easy but works. Routes I haven't played with. I ran it side by side with aus traveller.admitiddly without the The $150 map pack. The difference was not that profound. So I stuck with the cheaper option of rolling my Explorer into 4x4. Early days but , not a train wreck

The new app isn't as good as the old one it's supposed to replace. When you want to navigate to a waypoint you get redirected to Google Maps, really? The old app gave you a bearing, distance and line on the map from your location.

This and the cloud.hemamaps sister site are very poorly developed, lacking the very basics of editing functionality. I honestly don't know how Hema could release such rubbish when people are relying on it to help them navigate remote locations - it's a disgrace! Thanks for your response. I'll mention here what I'm looking for... A product that actually works! There are so many issues with this ecosystem that I don't know where to start to list them all. This app is a safety issue!

Very happy with the inclusion of the Hema Explorer maps! Now my only want for the app is a permanent North orientation option like the old app. I hate being made to have the map rotate as I'm moving along. Much harder to orientate myself quickly. This will get you 5 stars ;) Edit: I think I found a solution. Show bearing using > no bearing. This is good but is a very long way of changing a setting that should be able to be changed through tapping the compass on the main screen.

Cluttered. Harder to log tracks. Overall seems worse than the old app. Judging by responses to other reviews. The answer is spend hours reading and watching instructional info to learn how to use an app. Rather have a user friendly app to start with Also seem to now have 2 maybe 3 different hema accounts for different parts of the website? And i struggle to even find the correct login area for the new or old cloud

Note: 4X4 explorer is not designed for turn by turn navigation and should be used as a guide only. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Most mobile devices come with an in-built GPS receiver. However, it’s important to ensure the device you’re using has an in-built GPS receiver, as this is what enables location services that allow you to track your position. External Bluetooth GPS receivers can be purchased for use with devices that do not have one in-built.
