Very good tour at Okehampton Castle. The app was a bit temperamental initially but that was user error (me!), we got the hang of it in the end. Impressed with the effort they put in with actors, to tell the story. It didn't sync to my new earpods but that was an earpod problem i think. We just walked around with it on speakerphone. Didn't use up too much battery. Would definitely use it again. We downloaded it at home the day before which helped.

Tried to download this for Battle Abbey. Unless you have an older android phone it won't work. But English Heritage have a QR code at the entrance to Battle Abbey which you can scan so you can access the audio with a newer phone which works perfectly. English Heritage say they are aware of the problem...not sure why they don't explain that on their website but there you go!

The app won't even open, my phone is 18 months old, it looks like this is an ongoing problem, and you would have thought the English Heritage would have sorted it by now. Or at least stop advertising it.

Looks like I won't be using an audio guide when I go and visit Battle Abbey this weekend. English heritage tell you to download the app, but it only works on older android versions, which clearly isn't helpful

Last updated in 2016 and is now incompatible with newer versions of Android. Shame it's still advertised on English Heritage websites.

Terrible!! Won't even install if you are using newer software on your phone. Won't be able to listen to the audio guide with English Heritage now, what a shame!

About this app

With the Guide ID Podcatcher Audio Guide App you are able to take audio tours in various types of heritage sites like museums, galleries, castles and gardens, by using your own Android device. By using the App you use your phone as a guide and you can listen to stories and look at pictures at various sites.

The app contains a list of tours from which you can choose. Once downloaded you can listen to these tours whenever you want and you no longer require an Internet connection. The audio points can be activated via keypad, a QR code or via a displayed list. An up to date list of where audio tours are available can be obtained in the App.

The app requires the following permissions:

Hardware controls:
The camera is used to scan QR-codes
You can switch between the different speakers of your devices

Network communication:
The app checks if you Internet access is switched on
The audio tour is downloaded to your device over the Internet

Storage/Development tools:
The audio tour is stored on/read from your SD-card
