It is a good idea but I think what could make it great is being able to add in setbacks retrospectively. I often find I forget to add something at the time of the setback and have to do it when I remember which means the "last setback was" time is often not accurate. Otherwise a good app

Body Focused Repetive Behaviors.. whether you're biting your nails, pulling your hair, picking your skin, or biting the inside of your mouth, this app helps.Ive engaged all four BFRBs, but Dermatillomania (skin picking) is the biggest problem affecting my life. This app if anything is making me acknowledge each time I engage in such behavior(s) and its almost like I have more of a reason NOT to: Im keeping track of the bad times AND the good, so I'm able to reward myself and make a conscious effort to stop

This is a pretty useful app! I wish it had themes that were solid colors (not pictures) other than white. And maybe a community/sharing tool for some extra accountability.

Did not help. You just check in.. it wont prompt you ... that's it... it has a chart to show progress ... but that is it really...I could have just opened my notes and wrote down a check in instead of this stupid app. I wish I could get my 99 cents back. But not worth the time to even fight for it.

I'm so glad I found this app, I've been looking for something similar for a while but this is the first one I've found helpful. Although it was made for nail biting it's general enough that it can be used for other habits too.

I've been biting my nails for 20 years and this app is helping me a lot, I've only bitten off one nail in 2 weeks!

About this app

Calm Hands helps you stop nail biting and skin picking by recording all of your "will power moments" throughout the day, whether you bit or only thought about it. The app makes a game out of it, providing a score for you to focus on improving. "Thought about it but didn't do it" (good!) gets you more points than "Didn't stop until it hurt" (not so good).

Along the way you can include journal entries for where you were and what you were doing to help identify triggers, avoid those situations and stop biting your nails once and for all!

Take progress photos! Chart your progress over time. The app analyzes your history, providing statistics like how frequently you have setbacks, and suggesting what time of day is best/worst for you.

Nail biting and skin picking are often seen as childhood bad habits that you just eventually outgrow. For many adults and children alike, however, it is a compulsion they have suffered with for years or even decades. The anxiety associated with simple acts of human contact like waving or shaking hands is very real, and often debilitating.

Nail biting and skin picking are not "did I or didn't I" habits that can be crossed off a checklist like whether you did 10 pushups when you woke up this morning. Longtime nail-biting sufferers understand that there may be dozens of times a day when you catch yourself, unaware that you were even doing it. Is that failure? What about the times when you caught yourself about to do it and didn't? Surely that's a victory, and you need to celebrate those. More importantly, you need to be aware of when and why that moment occurred.

PERSONAL DATA IS NEVER SHARED. Nail biting is a personal, private battle and the app developer knows how that feels. If we already live in fear of people noticing the problem, why would we want to broadcast it on Facebook?
