About Top Secret

Travel to the "Secret City" of Oak Ridge, historic site of the Manhattan Project. Top Secret, a Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways initiative, is a trail hidden among the scenic wilds of the Upper Cumberland Plateau. Begin with a tour of Knoxville's historic sites, from early settlers' forts to the Battle of Knoxville during the Civil War. Then, explore the Upper Cumberland Plateau and the Appalachian Mountains foothills. Visit fascinating towns, from the “Secret City” of Oak Ridge and its atomic mysteries to Harriman and Rugby, both built on the principles of their founders. Enjoy the historic character of the town squares, general stores, and local museums on the route.
