How to take care pets, in general?
A healthy pet makes a good companion, but you have to take good care of your pet(s) for both of you to stay happy and healthy. In spite of such efforts, pets may fall ill, and possibly contract deadly diseases. The key to keep pets healthy lies in taking precautionary measurements and in follow-up monitoring. More importantly, a pet owner wishes making efforts to recognize pets disease symptoms at their earliest stages, which, if left ignored, may prove fatal.
Common diseases of pets:
Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD), also known as feline urologic syndrome (FUS) is a broad term that is used to cover a number of conditions associated with the feline lower urinary tract. It may present as any of a variety of problems such as, inflammation of the bladder (cystitis) or urethra, formation of urinary crystals/stones in the bladder (crystalluria/urolithiasis), and/or partial or total obstruction of the urethra. In male cats (and dogs), the latter condition is also known as plugged-penis syndrome. Complete urethral obstruction is fatal if left untreated. FLUTD is a common disease in adult cats. In addition, FLUTD will affect nearly 30% of all domestic cats in their lifetime, and the pain that is associated with FLUTD can cause great anxiety to these pets and their owners. First infections usually occur between the ages of two and six years of age. If a cat does develop a case of FLUTD, it is very important to take the measures prescribed by your veterinarian, as well as initiate preventative treatment for the future. About 10 to 20% of these animals will develop recurring problems with FLUTD if they are not provided preventative treatment. FLUTD affects cats of both sexes, but tends to be more dangerous in males because they are more susceptible to blockages as a result of their longer, narrower urethrae. Urinary tract disorders have a high rate of recurrence, and some cats seem to be more susceptible to urinary problems than others.
