Updated review after 2020 updates: Serves its purpose well enough. Bypasses the phone's silent setting which is good. Vibrates for 10 seconds then rings for 5 minutes, repeats indefinitely. Option to reset timer when you turn your screen off is very convenient. Sends an auto message in 10 minutes (non adjustable time period) if it gets no response. Message is now customizable. You can only set a limited time period during the night to sleep. If you have irregular sleep hours you can set it before bed to +11 hours. Can't set it for certain times in the day rather than every "x" hours. No option to set it to "pause" for a specific time duration, but you can change from every hour to every 4 hours if you'll be around people for a while. Cannot call anyone (like 911); only texts. It does send a google maps link with your GPS location to the contacts.

About this app

The Cryonics Institute’s Check-In app is a simple alarm and alert system that lets your phone send a message for help when you're not able to. The app uses a simple alarm system that checks-in on you or a loved one at selected times during the day. If the user fails to respond to one of the scheduled alarms, after 10 minutes the app will automatically send a text message for help with GPS location to up to five contacts.

IMPORTANT: In order for the alarm to work properly you may need to disable power saving options such as "background wake-up", "battery optimization", and more. See https://dontkillmyapp.com for details.

The app is ideal for persons who live alone or for times when you're fishing, hiking or otherwise out of contact, adding an extra level of security in the event of an emergency. For cryonics members, the app is designed to augment your current standby notification plans.

Set it up for yourself or someone else in three easy steps:

1. Pick contacts to message.
2. Set check-in frequency, e.g. every 4 hours.
3. Tell it when to be quiet, e.g. at night, while you sleep.

Customize to fit your lifestyle: Check in once a day, or once an hour. All day, or between certain hours - it's up to you. There is also an option for the timer to reset automatically when there is activity on the phone to reduce annoyance/hassle.

Alarm will vibrate 10 seconds then ring for 5 minutes, and repeat indefinitely. The automated message should be sent out after 10 minutes if you have pressed "No, I need help!", but not yet pressed "yes" or "no".

The messages it sends are now customizable. **WARNING**: do not add special characters. IE: "digitação" vs "digitacao".

This is a standalone app on your device and no data is collected, sent to or stored by CI or any other third party. The app is complete and functional on download with no ads, paid upgrades, subscriptions or any other payments required.
