I use this when in Slovakia as thunder storms can appear very quickly up in the mountains with no forewarning. My only suggestion would be to change the app to just taping anywhere on the screen as your preoccupied looking at the sky (and not at your phone). Press once for the flash and another for when you hear the thunder. Much simpler :) Also the ability to keep the screen awake whilst using the app as it will go off as per your settings.

Simple to use to measure distance to lightning. Gives both miles and km's. Tap for flash, tap again when you hear thunder.

Shows distance while waiting for thunder to strike. Fun to use and a great safety tool.

About this app

The original Android Lightning distance calculator. Press the top button when you see the flash, press the bottom one when you hear the thunder. The distance is shown in Miles and KM, up to 20 Miles. If you like, you can also start and stop the timer with the Camera button, trackball, or D-Pad.

Fun and educational, it's also useful for outdoor activities where lightning may be a hazard (handy for lifeguards, referees, playground helpers, etc.).

Not recommended for artillery spotting...

New features

New feature: The History page shows the elapsed time between now and the last entry (up to 99 hours). This is a convenient way to tell how long it's been since the storm has past. This was a user-request - keep them coming!
