Used it on the AT, and now on the Colorado Trail. It's a helpful app in that you can look ahead to find water sources, know your current elevation, and distance to and from points along the trail. Helpful support too when having trouble with the app. Nice to be able to read and see others comments about trail conditions.

Some guides deserve 5 stars, some deserve 1; they vary fairly drastically in utility. Fort example, the Camino del Norte map only has about 10% of the relevant way points marked, almost no information, and none of the water sources. It feels like some of these guides are just published without enough data for them to actually be useful. The more popular guides (PCT, AT, etc) are actually populated with data and are incredibly useful

Since update has completely failed twice. After trying several things, restart app, restart gps, system reboot,... Did an uninstall, redownload, reinstall. Happened about 2 weeks apart, first one right after update. For the last 3 days, it continually shows me off trail. I can be looking at a blaze and it says I'm off trail we are in NY and it's difficult. I depend on this app. We are all having trouble with the markings and getting off trail. So frustrating to have the app being so unreliable.

Great Ap ! I used briefly on the AT ( Appalachian Trail ) in 2020 and it kept on the trail even when the trail wasn't blazed. I like the "social network" part where you can post and read comments about water sources, businesses in trail towns. I recently upgraded my phone and for some reason the switch software I used didn't transfer my downloaded maps. Tylerwas kind enough to reset my account so I could re download everything, and told me how I could save all the maps and photos to the SD card in my phone. Thanks Tyler !

A fantastic app for hiking. They initially started with long-distance trails, where other hikers' comments are often very useful. They have added guides with multiple short trails by location, which function somewhat differently. The app allows creating custom routes based on the trails, measuring the distance and elevation. There is also a tracking option. The customer service responds very quickly and is very helpful. The prices for each guide are for lifetime subscriptions.

I've bought and used FarOut for my Long Trail thru (complete) and AT LASH (upcoming). It should be a no-brainer for anyone doing the same. You get accurate GPS of the trail, all sorts of planning stuff (water, campsites, town) and the big advantage is the depth of information, both from the app developers and fellow hikers. More than once, I've run into some poor unfortunate who didn't know about the app, all it takes is to show them the info they need on the app and they all download it.
