About this app

The Mobile Application, Okoa Maisha, Swahili for ‘save lives’ puts the power of monitoring road behaviors by rogue drivers into the power of passengers and other interested parties.

The Application will be used to monitor road user behaviors of private and Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) which significantly contribute to Road Traffic Injuries and Deaths (RTIDs) in Kenya. The data collected will be used to develop a database of drivers and (PSV) company profiles showing their road safety records.

This innovation will employ GPS technology to collect and analyze data pertaining to road-user behaviors.

This will result in reduced road accidents, reduced RTIDs and reduction in manpower and economic losses in Kenya and by extension the rest of East Africa. In addition, the Application will be useful in the tracking and recovery of missing and lost persons.

The application is designed to collect data into the following parameters: Date Trip is made, Vehicle Type (Matatu, Bus, Lorry, Private), Vehicle Registration Number, Vehicle Fleet Number, Trip Name (start and destination of the trip), Driver’s Name or PSV Number (if known), Highway used, and Owner/Company Name of the vehicle.
