The Marseille club won its first French Cup in 1924 and became the very first provincial club to win this title. OM is one of the clubs which played during the inaugural 1932-1933 season and which still plays in Ligue 1 today. After a first title of champion of France in 1929, in a competition which has now disappeared, the Marseille team won its first professional championship in 1937, before descending for the first time in the second division in 1959. A series of climbs and descents took place in the 1960s and the following decade was marked by the first Cup-Championship double in the club's history in 1972. After a black period in the early 1980s when the Olympic was close to bankruptcy, After the Marseille team won four consecutive league titles, a Coupe de France and the 1992-1993 Champions League, the first in the history of European football under this name, which remains the first and only C1 won by a club French. Following their comeback in 1996, the Marseille club failed to win a major title, despite notably two European Cup finals (1999 and 2004). This blank period ended with the title of champion of France in 2010 and three consecutive victories in the Coupe de la Ligue in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
