Mattox, who recently signed with Washington State, was the Most Valuable Player in the Gold Coast League after registering 15 sacks among his 86 tackles. He was the defensive leader of a Sierra Canyon team that reached the CIF Mid-Valley Division semifinals after going 9-1 in the regular season. He had season-high 18 tackles in a win against Agoura and in the Trailblazers’ two losses, Mattox shined in defeat. Against Paraclete, he had 16 tackles and four sacks and in the semifinal loss to eventual Mid-Valley Division champion Pomona, Mattox had 10 tackles and four sacks in his final prep game.

His size, speed, and agility are what landed him a spot as a Freshman on the CIF Championship Varsity Football team 2011. He continued to lead the defense as a Sophomore starter on Varsity, with 47 tackles, 7 sacks, and 2 interceptions. As a Junior, Mattox was named a premier player to watch in Southern California by the LA Times and the Ventura County Star.
