About this app

Northam is the largest town in the Avon Region - and is located within the Shire of Northam, a progressive Regional Centre servicing the Central Agricultural District of Western Australia (WA). The town is nestled besides the beautiful Avon River (renowned for the "Avon Descent" a spectacular annual White Water Event).
Northam is reached in around one hour via road or rail travel from the state's capital City,Perth.

As a heritage destination Northam is second only to the port City of Fremantle (WA) in the total number of historically significant buildings. Northam is third in the state overall in the number of Buildings that have been listed on the State Register of Heritage Places in recognition of their diverse architectural styles, building purpose and construction periods.

The app provides visitors with a fascinating insight into the town's rich historic past to the present day. There are easy to follow GPS directions guiding you to a wide variety of well preserved heritage listed buildings, many of which continue to serve the Community today. A short summary accompanies each feature found on this Town walking Tour, along with selective imagery.

There is also an annual events calendar, plus information on where to stay and eat, along with other essential facts useful to visitors. Including, real time traffic alerts (courtesy of Main Roads) and weather forecasts. The "Visit Northam" App receives regular Tour updates and occasional instant messages. Please check the app for the latest Tour News after installation on to your mobile device and during your visit.

This initiative was made possible by the State Government's Royalties for Regions program.
