About this app

Graffiti DIY character

Graffiti evolved from the activity of arrears into art. Although in many circles, this may still be debatable, in the graffiti popular culture is now recognized as an art form. In addition to wall murals, covered graffiti furniture, drawings and wall murals are elements of urban home decor.

The Origin of Graffiti

The word - Graffiti - is the plural of the Italian word "grafficar" which means: pictures, messages, scribbles, patterns, or writing walls or scratches. Its origins date back as far as the cave picture in prehistoric times, on walls and monuments in ancient Egypt as well as ancient Greece.

The graffiti we know today first appeared in the late 1960s in New York City. In this teenager will write down their name and street number on the subway. This is known as "tagging" the way many youths can gain recognition across the city. Later on the trend is found in Philadelphia where the names "Top Cat" and "Cornbread" are famous throughout the city.

When the spray paint enters the picture, graffiti art evolves into colorful graphics. With these new tools provide a way to collect more creative shapes, styles and colors implemented on the streets. At this point graffiti is divided into two groups: the taggers and the artists. Taggers who have no artistic talent will use a lot of colors and change their style to stand out in the midst of colorful collages that start covering the streets.

Those with artistic talents can use more complicated styles in their tags such as painting straight letters to look as if they are 3D. Artists will also produce large-scale multi-color productions with known cartoon characters in addition to the brand name or artist. This is the point at which graffiti evolves from simply writing or doodling a person's tags into more creative shapes and images.
