About this app

Colorbar Creator is an Android app that takes 6 images, adjusts the tint to a rainbow of colors, and adds a line of text below the image. These photos & text can be saved out on a user's phone and shared to other Android apps.

Colorbar History

In 2004 in support of gay marriage in Massachusetts, Alan Gerow (shared_boxers) created the colorbar meme style. It was originally an HTML table block of 6 colors, with a link in the text of "Marriage is love". It was intended to be posted on a user's profile to support gay marriage. Due to the HTML-based nature of the meme, it was quickly and easily altered to different colors, different messaging, and ultimately the colors were replaced with tinted images frequently promoting a fandom or political point of view. The original post garnered 11,007 comments before LiveJournal implemented a comment cap a few days after the meme started spreading, thus stopping additional comments. The meme spread out of LiveJournal and spawned communities and online generators.

Now, 16 years later, the original creator of the colorbar has released an Android app.
