La fortification du Saint-Gothard fut construite au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale dans le cadre de la stratégie du « Reduit » du général Guisan. Lors d'une visite de la fortification, l'application fournit de nombreux aperçus de la longue histoire de cette œuvre souterraine. Il contient beaucoup d'informations des différentes cavernes de cette fortification aujourd’hui devenue historique: les magasins de munitions, les canons, les cantonnements et les stands des mitrailleuses.

Entre cette partie de la fortification et la partie de l’exposition moderne circule le « metro dell Sasso ». Dans l’aire des expositions du monde moderne et des découvertes, les visiteurs peuvent contempler des expositions permanentes et temporaires liées au légendaire Gothard: la mobilité, l'énergie et le mythe du Gothard. Le point culminant est le groupe des cristaux géants du « Planggenstock ».

Cette découverte du siècle est exposée dans une caverne atmosphérique propre à elle.
