When it comes to finding a wooden wardrobe for your home, the equally important first two questions to ask are: what size wardrobe are you looking for, and which type of wood would you prefer.
Wardrobe Sizes
If you are looking for a standalone wardrobe and not a custom installation which is built to fit exactly into the available space in your bedroom, there are 3 wardrobe sizes that are available to you:
Single
Double
Triple
The difference in size between each will be proportionately incremental; for example the double will be twice as big as the single, and the triple three times the size of the single, with each model having the equivalent number of doors (1, 2, or 3).
For most people sharing a bedroom, a double sized wardrobe is sufficient, but with a triple wardrobe the additional space can negate the need for an additional item of furniture such as a chest of drawers.
The single size is easier to find than the other 2 sizes, and typically used in a child's bedroom, or in a room where space is limited. Unlike the double and triple wardrobes, a single model will rarely include a drawer.
Both of the larger sizes are available with a number of drawer combinations regardless of the type of wood. In most instances the drawers will be full or half-length, with some of the larger triple wardrobes providing up to 8 individual drawers.
If you already have - or are planning to buy - a chest of drawers, purchasing a wardrobe without drawers may end up saving you money, as the models with integrated drawers tend to cost more than those without.
Once the size has been ascertained, and whether or not drawers are required, it's time to determine which wood would be most suitable.
Types of Wood
While it is possible to find wardrobes in many types of wood, oak and pine are by far the most popular and common; mahogany, mango, and beech follow some way behind.
Pine is an excellent choice and the neutrality of the wood makes it a flexible option no matter what color the walls are. The popularity of pine furniture also means that you will have no trouble finding additional furniture pieces in the same style to complement your new wardrobe.
Oak enjoys the same benefits as pine, but edges it in terms of both popularity and availability. Solid oak wardrobes (made exclusively from premium grade oak timbers as opposed to veneer substitutes) are the premium oak wardrobe category and are surprisingly affordable. What's more, they look fantastic and last for many years, so end up delivering exceptional value for money.
If you're looking for new bedroom furniture, then perhaps you've already decided on what you want, and why. If not, then you might be considering lots of different types of furniture, or wondering whether real wooden bedroom furniture is worth it.
1. Wooden bedroom furniture is available in all sorts of different woods, and so there is plenty to choose from. If you're not a fan of pine, or teak, then there are usually plenty of other woods to choose from, and lots of shapes and sizes so you're bound to be able to find something you really like.
2. You might want natural wooden furniture to bring out the different colours of your bedroom, or as a bold focal piece. Why not choose something that is a darker or lighter color that wouldn't necessarily fit in with the rest of the house if that's what you want?
3. Perhaps you like a certain style of furniture, which doesn't work in the other rooms of your house. If you need to compromise and have space for the children to play, or for all the clutter of everyday life downstairs, why not have something you like upstairs. Why not go for something modern, or a timeless classic, if that's what you want
4. Proper wooden furniture will cost more than furniture made from chipboard or MDF. This is because there is a lot of work involved from dedicated craftspeople, which takes time.
