About this app

Developer: Paul Zhang, Haoxiang Wei
Lexington Kentucky, the horse capital of the world, attracts millions of people around the world every year to visit the exquisite horse farms located around the bluegrass area as well to watch the exciting World Equestrian Games at Keeneland. Lexington is the first city outside of Europe to ever host these games. Keeneland Race Course is located just a few miles away from downtown Lexington and it is one of the most beautiful and famous race course in the world. What’s more, Lexington is also home to a beautiful 1,200 acre Horse Park along with about 450 horse farms in the bluegrass region, attracting millions of visitors every year. With our app, the Kentuckian Horses (KH), the tourists can not only take pictures of horses but learn more information about specific horses such as their size, breed, achievements, mean while the horse farmers can manage the horses in the farm by keeping track of their information and updating them live. Our application promotes the horse culture of Lexington by making the life of both the tourists and the horse farmers much easier. The Kentuckian Horses app (KH) is an Android-based smartphone application, it is designed for two specific groups of people, the farmers and the tourists. It will benefit both the farmers and tourists by making it much more convenient to learn and keep track of the variety kinds of horses in Kentucky.Marketing a horse app in Lexington is very beneficial and effective, as horse tourism contributes $2 billion to Fayette County economy in 2015.From 2010 to 2017 the number of tourists visiting Lexington Kentucky increased gradually and steadily. The fact that tourism industry is a rising dramatically in Kentucky and is already contributing a large factor to our economy makes the future market of our app brighter. We have a massive user base who visits Kentucky especially its farms regularly, we also have a large group of farmers who needs help organizing and updating their information about their horse many of them being the winning of multiple Kentucky derbies. For example, the Claiborne Farm has been home to multiple Kentucky derby champions including Secretariat and Bold Ruler, the Calumet Farm is home to Triple Crown winners Whirl away and Citations, and most famously, Ashford Stud, which holds Triple Crown winner the American Pharaoh. With such a huge potential user base for both farmers and tourists, how do we let them know about us? In our plan, marketing will be done in a variety of ways with this app being based regionally. The very first step is to The first step is to promote the app heavily on social media. This will benefit the sales and press of the application as the focus is to have it featured on different horse affiliations such as the Kentucky Horse Park in which it will easily appeal the many horse farmers and enthusiasts in Kentucky and around the world. The next step is to reach out to local horse farmers in Lexington and Kentucky for them to incorporate their farms into their database. For our App not only helps them manage their horses faster and more effectively but also attracts more visitors to their property as well. This will create a trickle down effect onto the tourists as more farmers and promoters will reach out to tourists and residents to visit their farms and see specific horses through this app. This would benefit the tourists as it would be easier for them to see and visit the horses that they would like to see. This would also benefit the farmers as they would be able to gain more influence and press through more tourism for specific horses and more outreach to the tourists. These methods to advertise and market our app will reach the farmers and eventually many tourists and horse enthusiasts who visit Lexington.
