About this app

The origin of the word kebaya comes from the Arabic word abaya which means clothing, but another version refers to it from the word "Kebyak" or "Mbayak" from the Javanese community. There are opinions that say kebaya originates from China. Then it spread to Malacca, Java, Bali, Sumatra and Sulawesi. After acculturation that lasted hundreds of years, clothing was accepted in local culture and norms. But there are also opinions that kebaya is indeed from Indonesia. Because native Chinese clothing is a different Cheongsam from kebaya. The earliest form of kebaya came from the Majapahit Palace [1] which was worn by the empresses or king's concubines. as a means to integrate existing Kemban women, the wrap body of aristocratic women has become simpler and more acceptable to those who have just embraced Islam. Aceh, Riau and Johor and North Sumatra adopted the Javanese kebaya style as a means of expressing social status with Javanese rulers who were more alus or subtle. The name of the kebaya as certain clothing was recorded by Portugal when it landed on Java. Javanese kebaya as it is now was recorded by Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles in 1817, as silk, brocade and velvet, with the opening of the blouse tied by brooches, not buttons and buttons above the torso wrapped in a cloth, and separated ( cloth packs of several meters long are mistakenly termed 'sarong in England (sarong (Malaysian accent: sarong) sewn to form a tube, like Western clothing).
