About this app

Karate comes from pronunciation in Okinawan "Kara" which means Chinese and "Te" which means hand. Then the meaning of the two pronunciations is the Chinese hand, Chinese technique, Chinese boxing. Later around 1931 Gichin Funakoshi - known as the Father of Modern Karate - changed the term Karate into Japanese kanji that sounded better.

In 1936 the book Karate-do Kyohan was published by Gichin Funakoshi who had used the term Karate in Japanese kanji. In a joint meeting the masters in Okinawa the same meaning was taken. And since then the term "Karate" with Japanese kanji is different but the same pronunciation and meaning are used today.

At present the term Karate comes from two words in the letter "Kara" which means empty and "Te" which means hand. Karate means a martial art that allows one to defend himself without weapons.
This application is about how to do good and correct karate techniques.
