Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens), also sometimes known as Betta, are species in the Gourami family that are popular as aquarium fish. During and after spawning, the male uses his mouth to take the sinking egg and store it in a bubble nest (as long as the couple sometimes helps, but only consumes all the eggs he catches). After the female releases all the eggs, she is chased from the male region, because she tends to eat the eggs. If he is not removed from the tank, he is likely to be killed by a man.
