About this app

St. Jude Thaddeus was, according to various New Testament texts (Gospels, Acts of the Apostles), one of the disciples of Jesus of Nazareth, who was part of the group of "the twelve" apostles. He is mentioned in the Gospels as "brother of Jesus." It is also called simply "Tadeo", or "Judas de Santiago", although the identification between "Tadeo" (in the Gospels of Mateo and Marcos) and "Judas de Santiago" (in the Gospel of Luke and in the Acts of the Apostles) is discussed by specialists. In all cases, there seems to be a tendency to accompany the name "Judas" with some specification, perhaps because of the concern of the writers of those texts for differentiating Judas Tadeo from Judas Iscariot, 2 the apostle who is credited with having betrayed Jesus.
The name "Judas" is a Hebrew word (יהודה, Yehuda), which means praises are given to God. «Tadeo», a term from the Aramaic language, means the brave, robust man of the chest. He was also called "Lebbeo," which means a man with a tender heart. Along with Simon the Canaanite, Judas Thaddeus was one of the apostles considered more Judaizing within the group of "the Twelve". According to the Gospel of John, he was a privileged witness of the Last Supper, during which he had an explicit active participation. The ecclesiastical tradition attributes to him the authorship of the epistle of Judas, point also debated by the biblistas.
Today, the Catholic tradition venerates him as the saint of difficult and desperate causes. Its festivity is celebrated in the Catholic liturgy on October 28, although it is popularly remembered on the 28th of each month.
