Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing DixieVR | DixieViewer on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.

About this app

// Introduction

Because virtual reality in architecture must go beyond virtual tour by taking part of the conception process at its very core, we conceived Dixie VR : a multi-user immersive platform that allows different actors to work together in real time on an architectural project.

DixieVR was born from the idea that virtual reality could become a fantastic tool for architecture and architects, not only for virtual tours but for the conception at its very core.
Inspired by the efficiency of sandbox games, DixieVR will allow you to build a fully parametric 3D model from scratch in a very intuitive way and to simulate various factors like natural and artificial light, gravity, and more.
DixieVR is also multi-user oriented : several people, architects or not, are able to work together in real time on the same 3D model and in the same shared immersive environment !

The project started in the Digital Knowledge department of Paris-Malaquais Architecture School.

This app is an Android viewer with DixieVR & DixieIO files supporting virtual reality preview, using Google Cardboard or similar headset.
Copy .dix files on your phone (prefer a simple filepath to remember), then launch DixieViewer and select it.
Sample .dix files can be found with the DixieVR app and DixieIO plugin in the Dix Library folder (download at http://dixievr.com or directly here : http://dixievr.com/assets/dix_library_beta1.zip).
