Kids love crafting, especially if it is a craft they can re-use over and over again. There are plenty of things they can make themselves from items you probably already have around the house.
A denim pocket purse is an adorable bag every girl will love. So simple to make - just cut the back pocket out of some old jeans, being sure to keep the pocket whole. Attach some ribbon, string or other type of cord for a strap. Then the real fun begins. Let your crafter decorate the outside of the pocket purse any way her imagination desires! Add some fringe to the bottom, or add patches, beads or any other decorations they choose. Add velcro strips or snaps to allow the purse to close.
A mini-lighthouse night light can be a comfort to any child's room. Take an 18-ounce red plastic cup and put pieces of white plastic tape around it to make 3 stripes. Trace the bottom of a 9-ounce clear plastic cup on black card stock. Cut this circle out, plus two small rectangles for windows and a larger rectangle for a door. Trim the top inch or so from the clear cup so that it sits on the red cup with a slight overlap. Glue the black circle to the bottom of the clear cup and the doors and window to the red lighthouse cup. Set a battery-operated tea light on the red cup and cover with the clear cup. You can get rechargeable tea lights to keep from going through a lot of batteries.
This craft is great for boys and girls alike, and requires basic sewing. A monster pal pillow can be silly and fun to sleep with, play with or just keep on your bed. Find an old piece of material, an old sweater, blanket, shirt, whatever material you want for your monster. Cut 2 matching pieces in whatever shape you want your monster to have. Sew the two pieces together, leaving a hole for stuffing something inside to make it soft and fluffy. Sew up the hole and decorate your monster however you want. Glue on felt faces, ribbons, hair or whatever your monster needs to be unique!
A most popular craft for all kids is the most easy to create. Get a large box - refrigerator boxes work best. Most home improvement stores will have one they can give to you. Place it in the yard or garage and let your kids imaginations take over. It can be a ship, a car, a castle or a clubhouse. If they need help cutting doors or windows an adult may need to assist. They can paint and decorate however they like.
