About this app

Making crafts is an enjoyable hobby, easily adapted to every family member, but it can get expensive. As crafting continues to reemerge in a big way, crafters are looking for ways to enjoy their hobby without going over budget.

Some were gorgeous iridescent gems, leftover from outgrown Easter dresses. Others were workaday white or black buttons, suitable for men's dress shirts. Plain or fancy, simple or ornate, we loved them all.
But whether you buy your buttons on cards at the fabric store or snip them from old garments, I'll bet you could use some new ideas for using these little cuties on your scrapbook layouts:

1. Use them as a border. Instead of mounting your photo on cardstock, create a frame from buttons. Lay down a glue strip, or use glue dots on the back of each button, and put them in a pattern or haphazardly around your focal photo for extra oomph.

2. Make them into flowers. Use five smaller buttons with a large button in the center for a flower, or use a single button for the center of a paper or fabric flower. Stitch them down with a contrasting color of embroidery thread.

3. Use them as letters. Do you always run out of vowels first with your alphabet stickers. I sure do! Well, don't toss all those extra letters. Instead, pull out your buttons and use them for "Os" in your title.

4. Put 'em in the corner. Using a single button or an arrangement of three in the corners of your journaling box or photograph can help anchor the element visually to the page, as well as draw more attention to it.

5. Button marks the spot. I like to use small buttons in place of bullet points in your journaling. For this to look balanced, you'll need very small buttons, and a larger-than-normal font, but the effect is smashing!
