halloween projects
* Pumpkin Seed Necklaces

Paint roasted pumpkin seeds in "Halloween" colors (black, orange, green, purple) and using a sturdy needle (supervise young kids for this step) string them on heavy black thread cut long enough to make a necklace.

Handprint Ghosts

Using non-toxic white paint, cover the surface of your hand; with fingers held together, press your hand down to make a handprint on black paper. Cut around the handprint, leaving a bit of black around the edges. Paint black "holes" for the eyes and mouth. These can be strung up to make cute Halloween decorations.

Paper Plate Spiders

Paint the surface of a paper plate black and allow it to dry. Pleat a sheet of black construction paper, then cut lengthwise into eight strips. Glue one end of each strip onto the plate to make the spider's legs. Glue on a pair of googly eyes, or use cut circles of white paper with a black dot in the center.

Cereal Box Haunted House

Open the top flaps of an empty cereal box and tape the edges together to form a peaked roof shape. Cut out holes for windows and doors, and then paint the outside of the box black. Glue or tape yellow or white tissue paper in the "windows" from the inside of the box. Using construction paper, glue, white chalk and other decorative craft items, decorate the outside of the haunted house, making it as creepy as possible. Place a small flashlight inside the box and turn it on to light up the windows.

Halloween ghosties make for great craft project because they are easy to make, the supplies are inexpensive, and they're cute as can be. These white ghosts hanging from autumn trees makes a really cute effect for trick-or-treaters visiting on halloween craft ideas night; you just have to make sure to bring them in if it is going to rain!

Here's what you need to get started for making your own Halloween ghosts:
-Tissues, tissue paper, or cloth handkerchiefs
-Black and orange ribbon
-Black magic marker
-String (optional)

To make helloween live ghosties:
-Wad up a tissue ball and place in the center of another tissue or handkerchief (to fill the head of the ghost).
-Tie a black or orange ribbon under the head of the ghost, around the neck.
-Draw eyes and a mouth on your ghost with the magic marker.
-Tie a string around the neck or onto the back of the ribbon if you'd like to hang up your ghost.

Feel free to let the kids get creative with the ghosts if you like, too. My daughter likes to decorate hers with different colors and sometimes uses stick-on googly eyes for effect. My family usually uses Kleenex tissues to make these, but if you want something more durable, cloth handkerchiefs work really well. The beauty of this simple yet adorable Halloween craft is that it is fun for all ages - from preschoolers to older kids to adults like me.
