I switch this app on when I am on board of the tram: other people check their status in social media, I do daydreaming. Art for free.

About this app

WHAT IS WOKUKU (WOLKENKUCKUCKSHEIM or CLOUD-CUCKOO-LAND)
This application plays with your perception and imagination. After opening the application you will observe a surreal cosmos of changing images. Will you be able to find out whether you imagine or observe what you see? Every time you move your device a completely new vista appears, and the process starts over again. You will never see a picture sequence repeated.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The application is based on the art-science collaboration between the artist Elisabeth Weissensteiner and the cognitive scientist Christian Freksa. Its result is a permanent, interactive computer installation on the premises of the Cognitive Systems Group at the University of Bremen, Germany. The project takes up Aristophanes’ city between earth and sky as ironic metaphor for an attempt to localize the space of creativity.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Elisabeth Weissensteiner is interested in the syntax of space and the semantics of materials. She has studied German literature and art history, and has been working in sculpture, photo-based media, public art, and art-science projects internationally ever since. Her work is represented by galleries in Melbourne, Australia, and Vienna, Austria.
