About this app

This application belongs to the research project "Integration of Indoor Location-based
Services to a University Environment" which enables Indoor Location-Based Services at the University of Vienna.

Users (i.e. in this research project; students at the University of Vienna) can register with their credentials of their u:account. After login users can start receiving indoor location-based messages. Only registered users can add each other as "Friend"s to share their indoor position. The positioning is limited with universities premises.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The login system utilizes an open service i.e. IMAP for validation of user credentials. The credentials are neither stored on the application nor on the server. As the communication between the application and the server is not encrypted users are urged to register from a secure connection such as eduroam, so use it on your own risk.

Guests on the premises of the university can ask for a temporary registration account by contacting the Administrator per e-mail or test the indoor positioning capability -without registration- by simply installing the application and clicking on the "Location" button.

Please note that this application is neither published nor maintained by the University of Vienna and that it is part of a research project, thus at an experimental stage.

KNOWN ISSUES:

* The positioning can currently be conducted at public space of the Faculty of Computer Science and the Main Building only. Please note that following locations at the Main Building are not included for positioning yet due to missing fingerprints: Aula (Main Entrance), HS24, HS26, HS34.

* Accurate positioning might take longer then 1.5 seconds if the person is in motion. As the algorithm is not fully activated at this stage, the application is unable to operate at its best performance for now. Please refer to the Promo Video for current positioning performance of the application.
