About this app

The Babili’s Home is a graphic novel of 8 chapters. It tells the life of Iraqi citizens in occupied Baghdad.
The story starts when the first bombs fall on Baghdad in March 2003. Hayat Babili, a young journalist in her thirties, takes shelter in the basement of her family home (The Babili Family).
During the war, the life of Hayat and her friends was a mixture of wishes and difficulties, feelings of solidarity with their compatriots and commitment in fighting the US occupation and the extremist groups that arose from it.
The Babili’s Home is a place where Hayat and her friends can meet; it’s a place where they regain some semblance of normal life. There they chat about their projects for life, their loves and their desires.

Chapter 5. BETRAYAL
The former social order is collapsing and social customs now grow more radical. Rawilla will suffer a disappointment in love that deeply affects her.

The Babili’s Home arises from Iraqi writer Lutfiya Duleimi’s novel, Zaidat Zahal. The graphic version of the cartoon has been created by Sara Rojo and Javier Carbajo. The book has been published by Norma Editorial. On-line version has been possible thanks to; Consejería de Bienestar Social y Vivienda del Principado de Asturias, Consejería de Cultura y Educación del Ayuntamiento de Gijón, Comité de Solidaridad con la Causa Árabe (CSCA), Campaña Estatal contra la Ocupación y por la Soberanía de Iraq (CEOSI), la Fundación Al Fanar para el Conocimiento Árabe and Dar al Fadaat Publishing House.
